The Greater Accra Regional Football Association has taken a drastic approach to enhance the beauty of the game by recognizing and awarding key roles in the GARFA Division 2 League structure.
Mr. Samuel Aboabire (GARFA Chairman) looks forward to appraising these key roles to serve as great motivation to hardworking personnels on the field of play. The award category include best player, best coach and best referee of the month respectively in the ongoing GARFA Division 2 League 2022/23 football season.
Highly proficient and astute football icons have been consulted to arrive at a befitting criteria to be used as a standard for the award categories to make the entire process credible, free and fair.
The Technical Team of GARFA were contacted for the criteria of Best Player Awards with the aid of GARFA’s comprehensive database of all sports men including their consistence in obtaining MVP’s, Goals, clean sheet, e.t.c coalited from reports sheets submitted by match commissioners and referees.
The proposed criteria by GARFA Technical Directorate and the database shall be used to adjudge the best player awards category.
One may wonder how it will be possible to adjudge the best referee.
The Chairman of GARFA, Mr. Samuel Aboabire, prior to the implementation of this initiative, gave the opportunity for some selected GARFA Match Commissioners to be trained as Referee Assessors. This training was conducted by GARFA’s Chairman for Referee Assessors Committee ( Mr J.A Amenya ), GARFA’s Referees Manager (Mr. Annan Lomottey) and Instructed by GFA’s Referee Manager (Mr. Alex Kotey).
Over 50 Referee Assessors were trained and deployed already to match centers to gather data about the conduct of referees on the field of play.
Highest weekly scores were taken from both Referee Assessors Reports and Match Commissioners’ Reports specifically for the month of January.
A total of their weekly highest score were struck against their total number of weeks to determine their average. Referee Assessors Instructors were assigned to secretly observe the matches of the shortlisted nominees to adjudge the best referee.
The criteria used for selecting the best coach of the month shall be the Club’s standing order on the League table.
This covers wins, loses, draws and points accumulated in the specified month by the said Clubs nominated for the award.
The award scheme is intended to begin this year, hence, preparations are being made to do presentations for the earlier mentioned categories for the month of January.
