GARFA MONTHLY AWARDS PRESENTATION

The Greater Accra Regional Football Association duly launched its Division 2 League on December 14, 2022 at the La McDan Town Park.

The Division 2 League has completed its first round of matches, and what a thrilling set of games it was!

As we reflect on the past weeks’ action, we cannot help but commend the efforts of the players, coaches and referees who have made the league a spectacle to watch.

GARFA in this regard has taken the initiative to award these imminent sports men for the month of February, which coincides with end of first round of GARFA Division 2 League 2022/2023 season. GARFA Awards Scheme for the month of February was held at the GHALCA Conference Hall at the Accra Sports Stadium on March 16, 2023 at 9am.

After a careful consideration and evaluation, the winner for the best referee for the month of February went to Gideon Appiah Essel, a Class I Referee. Presentation was done by Mr. J.S Bortey, a Rt. FIFA Ref., Chief Petty Officer of Ghana Armed Forces, Ex-National/Regional Fitness Instructor, Instructor of Swimming and Djasetse of the Nungua Mankralo of the Nungua Traditional Council.

The Assistant Referees were not left out, as Christopher Defor was awarded the Best Assistant Referee for the month of February. Presentation was done by Abigail Sowah, Rtd. FIFA Assistant Referee and GARFA Technical Instructor.
For the category of best coach for GARFA Women D1 side, Derrick Aboagye of Jonina Ladies having played 5matches, won all 5, Drew none, Lost none, Scored 58 goals, conceded 3 goals and accumulated 15goals, was awarded Best Coach for the month of February.

Presentation of the award was done by Lawyer Cleopatra Nketia, an astounding Club owner of Ridge City Women Football Club and a member of GARFA Disciplinary Committee.

The Best player nomination saw amazing statistics, but Yaa Agyeiwaa of Halifax Ladies FC having played 5 matches, with two MVP’s and 7 goals was awarded the Best player for the month of February. Presentation was done by Fafali Dumehesi, an Ex-Black Queens Goal Keeper and an Official of the Police Ladies Football Club.

The GARFA D2 League Male side had in the Best Coach category, amazing personalities with great statistics. Abubakar Shaibu, head coach of Union Sportive Avranches having played 5matches, Won 4 , Drew 1, Lost none, accrued 10 goals, conceded no goal and accumulated 13points making him the Best Coach for the month of February. Presentation was done by Ex Black Stars Coach and current Legon Cities Football Club , Maxwell Kunadu.
Solomon Kojo Antwi of Dansoman Wise XI was awarded the best player for the month of February having won 3 MVP’s and scored 6 goals in 6 matches.

The presentation was done by one of Ghana’s local league all-time scorer, Eric Kwabena Bekoe of Kumasi Asante Kotoko fame.

We hope the second round of GARFA Division Two League becomes a spectacle in the region.
